“I would like to thank the leadership at the Center for Digital Government for this great honor,” said Harry Herington, NIC’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. “I believe everyone has a talent or passion that can be used to positively impact the lives of others in their community. That’s what I expect of myself, my family, my employees, and my colleagues.”

Throughout his career, Mr. Herington has dedicated his personal time and resources to a variety of non-profit organizations. In 2009, he founded Ride4Cops to raise money and awareness for the families of officers killed in the line of duty. He also founded the Valor Awards, a program in Lawrence, Kansas, honoring the valiant efforts of first responders, and he established a Law Enforcement Scholarship at the University of Kansas School of Law, specifically to help officers injured in the line of duty and family members of fallen officers.

In addition to supporting law enforcement and first responders and numerous other local charities, Mr. Herington and his wife Cindy also founded Christian Dance Studios, a non-profit dance program for school-age girls. For the past 12 years, this program has provided a safe and affordable after-school activity for approximately 150 young ladies each year.

As CEO of NIC Inc., Mr. Herington holds every one of the Company’s 850 employees responsible for helping improve their community. Several years ago he worked with employees to establish the Citizen of the Year award. The Citizen of the Year program rewards an employee who has gone above and beyond in giving back to their community with a week-long vacation for two, plus a donation of $5,000 to their charity of choice.

The 2015 Leadership by Example Award was presented to Mr. Herington on August 9, 2015 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the Center for Digital Government’s Industry Summit. This summit provides an opportunity for government and the industry to recognize its private sector partners, those companies who work closely with government to tailor solutions to suit the unique needs of government.
