MALVERN, Pa. -- (Business Wire)
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, one of the oldest and
most distinguished pediatric hospitals in the United States, became the
first children’s hospital worldwide to install the Atellica® Solution1
immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyzers from Siemens Healthineers.
The Atellica Solution, while housed out-of-sight from the hospital’s
young patients, is revolutionizing the way in vitro diagnostic samples
move around the laboratory so that physicians can get test results
quickly.
More important than speed for these precious patients, however, is the
amount of blood that needs to be drawn to run a test. As one of the
nation's most well-respected children’s hospitals, Cincinnati Children’s
Hospital Medical Center must continue to look at ways that the
laboratory can improve the patient experience. The Atellica Solution
will allow the hospital to complete its routine testing panels while
using a smaller sample size—always of significance to the parents of a
newborn.
A substantial percent of the specimens received in Cincinnati Children’s
Hospital Medical Center’s laboratory are collected in small pediatric
microtainers. Before the advent of the Atellica Solution, manual
pre-analytical pediatric sample management created inefficiencies and
delays in overall workflow. The solution’s capability for direct
sampling is anticipated to help address these inefficiencies and is
expected to improve productivity.
Thanks to a comprehensive testing menu, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Medical Center will replace three different chemistry and immunoassay
analyzers with one Atellica Solution. By consolidating the number of
testing platforms, the laboratory will drive a projected savings of more
than $250,000 annually. Both the cost savings and the freed space are
expected to enable the core laboratory to expand its reach and test
offerings. The Atellica Solution from Siemens Healthineers offers
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center flexibility with its
modular design and unique ability to customize configurations as
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s patient testing capacity
grows.
“Well-respected institutions abroad and in the United States are
adopting the Atellica Solution because of its versatility to address
specialty and complex testing needs without sacrificing throughput and
turnaround time,” said Andy Olen, Senior Vice President, Laboratory
Diagnostics, North America, Siemens Healthineers. “We’re proud that the
Atellica Solution is contributing to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s
efforts to advance their pediatric testing capabilities.”
