With this promotion, Mr. Van Asselt joins the Company’s Senior Management Steering Group, which along with the Executive Team, serves as a forum to discuss the risks and opportunities affecting the Company’s growth.

Mr. Van Asselt joined NIC in 2010 as an Associate General Counsel and was promoted to Deputy General Counsel in 2014. As General Counsel, Mr. Van Asselt oversees NIC’s legal department, providing legal advice and leadership for the Company.

Prior to joining NIC, Mr. Van Asselt practiced law at Lathrop & Gage LLP in Kansas City, Missouri, and, previously, at Hogan Lovells in Washington D.C., where his practice focused on contract negotiations, corporate mergers & acquisitions, telecommunications law and corporate governance. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Van Asselt served as the Executive Director for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation in Washington D.C. Mr. Van Asselt received his law degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in political science from the University of Missouri.
