Fujitsu Enhances Functionality of INTARFRM Application Framework, Support for Multiple Browsers and Devices

2014-04-24 22:42 ET - News Release

Tokyo -- (JCN Newswire) --

Fujitsu today announced that all editions of INTARFRM, its application framework(1) that supports customers' system development, have been updated with web application development functions for multiple browsers and devices. The new versions will be rolled out incrementally beginning today only in Japan.

The new editions upgrade development functionality and components for web applications that use HTML5(2) and JQuery(3), and also provide support for Google Chrome and Mobile Safari, browsers that are used in many smart devices. This will enable customers to efficiently develop web applications that can run on multiple browsers on various types of devices.

In this way, customers will be able to provide new services via smart devices and respond quickly to changing work styles. Moreover, parts developed using these functionalities and components are standardized to enable more flexibility to deal with changes in specifications.

Background

Smart devices have rapidly increased in popularity in recent years and through the advancement of efficient application development have led to a provision of new services and a transformation in work styles. With market needs and the conditions that companies operate in both in a constant state of flux, companies need the ability to build systems with the flexibility to respond to those changes.

Enhanced Features

All editions of INTARFRM have been updated for HTML5 and JQuery, along with support for various browsers such as Google Chrome and Mobile Safari.

These editions have also been enhanced with templates and components for developing smartphone interfaces that run on iOS and Android. In addition, they have been updated with functions for developing and running web applications for a greater user experience, enabling users to easily utilize via a screen that offers outstanding clarity and easy navigation.

Enterprise Edition Upgrades

The Enterprise Edition of INTARFRM RIA Java Ajax, the application framework for large-scale systems, now supports HTML5 and JQuery, making it more efficient to develop high-quality web applications that are easy to maintain. The new version now includes components for developing web-application screens with outstanding clarity and ease of use.

In making web screens, whereas the same description used to have to be repeated multiple times, a new component enables one description to be displayed multiple times. Another new component uses the file upload/download feature from HTML5 for intuitive drag-and-drop operations. It can also display the status of progress using a progress bar.

Professional Edition Upgrades

The Professional Edition, the application framework for small- and medium-sized systems, has enhanced design information in the repository and CASE(4) tools for generating programs using design information. This allows for efficient development of web applications that can run in multiple browsers, on multiple device types. Functions that previously needed to be created by hand, including paging or row-sorts and updates to isolated parts of the screen, can now be handled simply by changing the required elements in the design information in the repository. Additional screen widgets include input hints and multiple-selection list boxes, which no longer need to be created by hand.

Rapid Edition Upgrades

The Rapid Edition, the application framework for developing systems that require expandability and rapid iteration, has been updated to include new functions that allow existing systems to work with smart devices without altering any code, simply by using screens designed for smart devices. These functions determine what kind of device is being used and automatically switch to a screen design optimized for that device type.

Quote from Ken Azuma, Managing Director of Infragistics Japan Co., Ltd.

Infragistics Japan welcomes Fujitsu's decision to add multi-device, multi-browser development functions to their INTARFRM application framework. We understand how critical it is to provide business solutions for multiple client environments, such as PCs, tablets, and smartphones, and now INTARFRM incorporates our "Ignite UI" cross-platform, Web standards-based UI component for HTML5 and jQuery. By making all versions of INTARFRM compatible with multiple devices and browsers, we are confident Web application developers will be able to easily and quickly produce high-quality solutions. Moving forward, we will work together with Fujitsu to increase application developers' level of satisfaction.

Notes:

(1) Application framework:

Something used to increase standardization of code and reduce development work when developing applications. Narrowly defined, application frameworks are collections of classes and libraries used in application development. Broadly defined, application frameworks may include application control structures, application-development methods and documentation, work systems, development tools, etc. INTARFRM can be considered an application framework in the broad sense.

(2) HTML5:

Hypertext Markup Language 5. The fifth version of the standard markup language for web pages. Put forward for study and standardization by the W3C, the standards body for web-related technologies.

(3) JQuery:

An open-source JavaScript library. Makes it possible to add special effects, animation, and user-interface elements to web pages using simple code; a wide range of plugins are available for jQuery that add features such as easy implementation of Ajax communications.

(4) CASE tool:

Computer-Aided Software Engineering tool. Software used to support system development. Typically takes definitions needed for application development as an input and automatically generates source code from them.
